Protest Urban Shield on Friday, September 8th

Protest Urban Shield
Friday, September 8th

Stop the war on communities of color!

Just this week Trump lifted an Obama Administration limit on the transfer of military weapons to police departments. This gives police easier access to grenade launchers, high-caliber weapons, bayonets, even armed aircraft. This is a terrifying move. Here is something we can do about it locally – join us to protest Urban Shield, the local militarized police training and weapons expo.

Join the Stop Urban Shield Coalition to say NO to policing, militarization and state violence! The weekend of September 8th, Alameda County will host the racist SWAT training, war games and weapons expo, Urban ShieldWe will gather on September 8th, across communities, to end it & resist police militarization around the world!

With the current manifestations of violence under the Trump administration, it is more important than ever to urge the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to end this racist, ableist, and Islamaphobic event and invest in emergency preparedness that benefits the health and wellbeing of our communities. Join us in resisting violence against our communities and in fighting for genuine visions of justice, safety, and self-determination including trainings and resources on: People’s Fire Safety, Earthquake Kits, and How to Be Cop-Free.
4PM: Rally at Alameda County Board of Supervisor’s Buildling, 1221 Oak St., Oakland CA
5PM: Community Fair at South Amphitheater Lake Merritt

Will you donate a poncho, a radio, a first aid kit, weather-proof matches or other items for earthquake preparation to show the strength of community based safety programs?

The Stop Urban Shield coalition is holding a Community Fair on September 8 immediately following a 4:00 PM rally opposing Urban Shield’s SWAT training, war games and weapons expo at the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, 1221 Oak St. The Fair will feature Earthquake Safety as well as herbal medicine (Herbal Shield), self defense, alternatives to calling 911, fire safety, and more. The Earthquake Safety station will include free items to help people living outside (houseless) complete their own earthquake kits, as well as information and other resources.

We need your help to provide these items. We have created a wish list on Amazon – Donations for Stop Urban Shield – listing our most needed items. You can send them to us directly from that list or use the list to buy similar items anywhere you prefer.

The Alameda Sheriff’s Department, host of the militarized expo, and the other police agencies involved are making a big marketing push to sell Urban Shield as essential to community safety. Help us show that community self-determination, self reliance and cooperation provide a better answer. Please make a donation and share this with your friends.

See you on September 8th,
