This summer, millions of white people around the country watched the violence in Ferguson and Gaza, knowing something was terribly wrong, but unsure how to translate feelings of fear, isolation, and uncertainty into anti-racist action.
Clearly, the need for organizations that support white people to take bold and accountable action to end racism is growing. Catalyst is growing to meet this need. We are Isaac Lev and Hilary, the new co-coordinators of our mostly volunteer collective at Catalyst Project. And we are eager to connect people who share our values of dignity and justice to a community that fosters anti-racist action and vision.
Anne Braden called this community “The Other America.” She wrote, “In every age, no matter how cruel the oppression carried on by those in power, there have been those who struggled for a different world. I believe this is the genius of humankind, the thing that makes us half divine: the fact that some human beings can envision a world that has never existed.”
Now, more than ever, we need large number of white people acting in strategic and courageous ways alongside people of color to end racism in our communities, our movements, and our hearts.
Let’s build the world we long for!
