Catalyst Project is a center for political education and movement building based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are committed to anti-racist work in majority white sections of left social movements with the goal of deepening anti-racist commitment in white communities and building multiracial left movements for liberation. We are committed to creating spaces for activists and organizers to collectively develop relevant theory, vision and strategy to build our movements. Catalyst programs prioritize leadership development, supporting grassroots fighting organizations and multiracial alliance building.
Internal Study Program

For years we have talked about our desire for group study and structured support for our intellectual and political growth. In 2004 we prioritized this work and devoted two group retreats to create a new Internal Study Program. We outlined an extremely ambitious plan including a survey of the Marxist and Anarchist traditions through key texts, and studying historical social struggles and revolutionary movements from the Russian Revolution up to the Zapatistas in Mexico and the Landless Peasant Movement in Brazil. Our plan is guided by the goals of deepening our analysis of how the institutions of capital, white supremacy, patriarchy, heterosexism, the gender binary system and the state operate in the world today, what vision we hold for a free society and what organizing strategies will enable us to win short term victories, and ultimately build a liberatory society.

We are moving forward with our program with shared reading and we have invited close comrades and members of our advisory board to make presentations on the topics we’re focused on. Looking to others in our community for support in our study has been an essential part of our process.
